Firm Profile

The firm has been in the Petoskey area for over 30 years. We provide accounting, audit, tax, bookkeeping and management advisory services for a variety of clients. Accounting and audit services encompass audits, reviews and compilations of financial statements. Tax services include business, personal and estate tax planning and return preparation. The management advisory services provided by our firm are diverse and include such services as business valuations, litigation support, and assistance with buying, selling and transferring a business. We are also able to provide computer consulting services, including accounting software installation and support.

The firm’s client base is diversified and includes governmental entities, nonprofit organizations, manufacturers, construction companies, professional corporations, retailers, social clubs, condominium associations, and visitors bureaus.

The firm is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), including its Taxation Section, and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants. As an AICPA member, we are required to participate in a practice-monitoring program which provides, in effect, an audit of the auditors. We received an unqualified opinion from our most recent review, which was completed in December, 2012.

PROFESSIONAL STAFF BIOGRAPHIES

The following are biographies of the professional staff members of our firm:

Kevin R. Christman, CPA

Kevin Christman is a principal in the firm of Rasmussen, Teller, O'Neil, & Christman, P.C. and has been a member of the firm for over twenty five years. Kevin supervises several of the audit engagements performed by our firm and is also responsible for a variety of accounting and tax engagements. Kevin also specializes in the estate and trust taxation area.

Kevin graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Business with a major in accounting. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants and the Estate Planning Council of Northern Michigan.

Kevin also is a member of the Rotary Club of Petoskey and is also a past President of the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce and a past board member and Chairman of the YMCA of Northern Michigan.

Daniel D. Rasmussen, CPA, MBA

Dan Rasmussen is a principal and managing partner of Rasmussen, Teller, O'Neil, & Christman, P.C. and has over twenty five years of experience in public accounting. Dan has been a member of the firm for twenty years. Before joining the firm, Dan worked in the tax department of the Grand Rapids office of Ernst & Young LLP, an international public accounting firm. His experience includes individual and closely-held entity tax planning and preparation. Dan heads up our Business Valuation practice and also supervises and maintains our computer systems and has experience with a variety of software applications.

Dan graduated with honors from Michigan State University with a Masters Degree in Business Administration and Professional Accounting with an emphasis in Taxation. His Bachelor of Arts Degree is in Accounting. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, and the Estate Planning Council of Northern Michigan.

Dan also serves as a Tournament Director and Treasurer for the popular Petoskey Education Foundation Golf Outing, Treasurer of the Top of the State Michigan State University Alumni Club, and a nonprofit organization serving cancer patients, Beautiful Survivor. Dan is also a Charter Member and a past President of the Sunrise Rotary Club of Petoskey, former Treasurer of the Petoskey Education Foundation,  and former Committee Chair for the SFX Troop 7 Boy Scouts. He also spent ten years managing baseball teams within the Petoskey Little League.

Dan enjoys maintaining his lawn and flower gardens, golfing, stamp collecting, and enjoying summer in Northern Michigan with family and friends.

Ted M. Teller, CPA

Ted Teller is a principal in the firm of Rasmussen, Teller, O'Neil, & Christman, P.C. He has been a member of Rasmussen, Teller, O'Neil, & Christman, P.C. for twenty one years. Ted has experience in a variety of audit, accounting and tax engagements. He has expertise in audits of nonprofit and governmental entities and currently supervises the audits of several of these entities performed by our firm.

Ted graduated with honors from Lake Superior State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in accounting. Ted is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants.

Ted is a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Petoskey, is a member of the Board of Deacons of Landmark Baptist Church, and serves as board President of the Manna Food Project and Past President of Northern Community Mediation.

 Mona C. O’Neil, CPA

Mona O’Neil is a principal in the firm of Rasmussen, Teller, O'Neil, & Christman, P.C. and has over thirty years of experience in public accounting. Mona has been a member of Rasmussen, Teller, O'Neil, & Christman, P.C. for twenty five years. She has experience in a variety of accounting and tax engagements.

Mona graduated with honors from Lake Superior State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in accounting. She is Treasurer of the Petoskey Education Foundation and the Charlevoix Area Humane Society. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants.

Adam B. Caron, CPA

Adam Caron is a principal in the firm of Rasmussen, Teller, O’Neil & Christman, P.C. He has been with the firm for fifteen years. Before joining the firm, he worked as an accountant in industry. He has experience in a variety of accounting and tax engagements.

Adam graduated from Lake Superior State University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting Degree and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants.

Adam serves as Treasurer for the Little Traverse Association of Home Builders.

Hyangsook P. “Sookie” Ostrander, CPA

Sookie Ostrander has been a member of the staff of Rasmussen, Teller, O'Neil, & Christman, P.C. for eight years. Sookie graduated with honors from Saginaw Valley State University with a Bachelor of Science .  She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants.

Sookie is a member of the Friends of the Boyne River.

Matthew J. Frentz, CPA

Matt Frentz has been a member of the staff of Rasmussen, Teller, O'Neil, & Christman, P.C. since 2011. Before joining the firm, Matt worked in healthcare as an accountant and as a regional manager in industry.

Matt has a degree from the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University in Supply Chain Management and an Accounting Degree from Lake Superior State University.  Matt is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and serves as the Finance Chair for McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital Foundation and Treasurer of the Walloon Lake Trust and Conservancy.

Outside of work Matt enjoys camping, hiking, boating, and scuba diving the many Great Lakes Shipwrecks.  Matt and his wife Katie have three boys including a set of twins and are active in their kid’s school activities.

Misty L. Enos, Staff Accountant

Misty has been a member of the staff of Rasmussen, Teller, O'Neil, & Christman, P.C. since December of 2013. Misty is currently studying for the Uniform CPA exam and working on the experience requirement to receive her CPA license.

Luann S. Vandenberg

Luann Vandenberg is the firm administrator and supervises the firm’s bookkeeping and payroll functions as well as managing the operations of the office.  Luann has been with the firm for over thirty five years and has a great deal of experience with payroll and payroll tax issues.

Kimberly J. Crandell

Kim Crandell splits her time between administrative duties for the firm and offering bookkeeping services to her clients.  Her specialty areas include bookkeeping for Condo Associations and real-time bookkeeping for several contractor clients.  Kim has been with the firm for over ten years

Michele "Shelly" L. Malpass Raymond

Shelly rejoined the firm in November of 2012, after previously working for the firm from 1996-2001.  Shelly has 20 years of bookkeeping experience. Shelly performs bookkeeping and payroll functions for her clients and offers software assistance to Quickbooks and Sage users.

Kathy J. Culbertson

Kathy has been with the firm since August of 2016 and has several  years of accounting, bookkeeping and payroll experience.  Kathy specializes in “live” bookkeeping by offering bill payment and cash management services to her clients.  She received her undergraduate degree from Lake Superior State University.

Gabrielle A. "Gabbie" Ogden

Gabbie recently joined the firm after graduating with a degree in Accounting from Lake Superior State University in May 2017.  Gabbie splits her time between administrative duties for the firm and offering bookkeeping services to her clients.
